I can’t help feeling mixed emotions towards this. On one hand, it’s only been a couple of weeks since Bill Gates announced that he will step down in 2008 to spend more time with his organization. That’s cool in my book. I personally think it’s very noble to do that and respect the man more than if he’d stay at Microsoft for the money. On the other hand, it’s mighty convenient that Warren Buffett announced that he’s leaving most of his fortune to Bill’s foundation, rather than the one he and his wife started. My gut tells me that Bill knew about it when he made his decision to leave, expects Buffett to kick the bucket in the next few years, and wants to play with more money. I think the philanthropy of millionaires is great, it the timing here smells of fish.
